Golf In The Philippines: A Very Hot Weekend

”It was a a very hot week-end at Calatagan, but fortunately no rain during day-time. The course was in superb condition, and the greens were super fast. We played the normal monthly tournament on Saturday, and after adjusting handicaps we then played the Club championship based on Sundays scores counting alone”, Per Stangegaard writes at SGCP’s  homepages:

He continue:
On Saturday we furthermore awarded the end-of-season prizes to the following members:
Player of the year : Wenche Finstad 213 points from 6 best games
Most improved : Lotta Haase 6,0
Member of the year : Hans Haase
Congratulations to all of you.
Also big thanks to Hans for his many surprises. – The BBQ party at the raft was a great new initiative, and the magic flying golf ball a great hit with kids of all ages.
RUTH OWEN Owen won the club championship this year. The only player to come in with 36 stablefort points on Sunday. Very well done Ruth, and congratulations. Hans came second (but could have won it, if he hadn’t played a wrong ball resulting in 2 penalty strokes). Petteri came third in a tie with Julius on 34 points, but with a lower handicap, Per Stangegaard writes.
Other results from Sunday :
Nearest to the pin Roy Bjorklund Longest drive ladies Mona Rsseland Longest drive men Roy Bjorklund Lowest putts Hans Haase 27.
After all the fun, the subject changed.
Now, for the issue of SGCP’s future, several ideas were discussed, and the following are the conclusions after Calatagan :
Going through the list of members, we are convinced that the lack of participation during the past season is first and foremost caused by lack of time, conflict of schedules, and the fact that the tournament dates and venues had to be changed several times.
We have still been more than 40 active players during 2007/2008, and that is a fair level of participation.
The present board needs help, and Hans asks to be relieved of his duties as president, and also the rest of the board is busy with their other occupations, underline Per Stangegaard.
Julius offered his help as Vice-President, and also Petteri offered to help. Furthermore Mats Olafson was suggested for a new seat on the board, but no actual voting took place.
Instead, it was decided that the present board will arrange the forthcoming fun tournamement at Intramuros on May 31st, as well as the opening tournament at Navy on August 31st, and Hans will arrange Calatagan tournaments for the coming season.
In the meantime, we will futurewise require the members to arrange the monthly tournaments.
The model is that of Morten and Marichu Carstensen’s much appreciated Doc’s candles tournaments. i.e. a member, or a family, or a group of members arrange one or more tournaments during the year, and become the “presidents” for that tournament – in charge of everything, but with the assistance of the consultative board.
The present board, will thus continue as a “Consultative Board” strengtened by Julius and other helpers, until the new system has been tested during the coming season.
N this way, we give our members a chance to arrange a tournament to their own taste, and this will relieve the board of the most time consuming tasks of arranging, booking, etc.. – You are welcome to use the occasion to promote your company and your products.
We shall need YOU, the members, to give us feed-back on which tournaments you would like to arrange.
We know that the Germans have also had good participation for tournaments in Cagayan de Oro, and we invite any of our members to arrange and invite for other out-of-town week-end excursions.
We know that we have SGCP players who are members in Orchard, Canlubang, Caliraya, Villamor and other places. Please do come forward and commit to arrange a tournament. By August, we shall see if there are any tournaments still open, and we shall then delegate the remaining arrangements to the various members if necessary.
Even if you are not a member of any club, it should be possible to arrange events at the new Sun Valley, or at Splendido, EverCrest, and other courses.
”Anybody who can arrange tournaments at Manila Golf, Wack-wack or Sta. Helena will be very much appreciated also”.
