Magne Bondevik To Deliver Address At International Conference On Muslim World In Malaysia

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will deliver a keynote address at a two-day international conference on the Muslim World on Monday.
    Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies chairman Prince Turki Al Faisal are to attend the conference.
    Also attending are former Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President of the Oslo Centre for Peace and Human Rights Kejll Magne Bondevik who is also former Norway Prime Minister.
    Entitled “Muslim World and The West: Bridging the Gap”, the conference, the third in the series organised by Malaysia, is jointly hosted by the Foreign Ministry, Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations and the Cordoba Initiative, Wisma Putra said in a statement Saturday.
    To be opened by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, it promises to be action-oriented and aims to define and agree on what constitutes the gap between the Muslim World and The West.
    The conference, to be held in two sessions — high-level plenary session and four concurrent strategy sessions, is expected to propose practical solutions and specific projects to narrow the gap, it said.
    About 50 local and foreign experts and representatives from a cross-section of the civil society, government, non-governmental organisations and think-tanks will participate in the strategy sessions, it added.
