Vikings – Siam Celtic FC 1-2

Vikings Bangkok played their second game of the season against the new Div. 2 team Siam Celtic (SC). Most experts had Vikings as the solid favorites to collect their first 3 points of the season in spite of some key players missing and no keeper available.
The Vikings starting eleven was: Richard (Keeper); Travis, Breitner, Jannik, Fredrik; Thomas, Martin, Chris, Lars; Bjerner, Joacim. Subs: Tim and Udom.
Vikings started pretty well and created some good chances. Lars came very close but his free kick ht the post. Otherwise the Vikings were missing some killer instinct up front and wasn’t able to turn the possession into goals. SC didn’t pose any threat to the Vikings defense until around middle of the first half when one of their players was given way to much time just outside the area. With a well placed shot he put SC in front 0-1.
This goal really seemed to dampen the Vikings spirit and there was no luck in finding the equalizer before halftime.
Second half was dominated by many long balls from the SC team while the Vikings struggled to get control in midfield and get some passing play going. With only 2 subs the team was getting tired in the afternoon sun.
Lars almost equalized but his attempt went wide, later he did find the net with a great shot 1-1. The goal lifted the team and suddenly all 3 points were again within reach. However it wasn’t to turn out like that as the referee decided to give SC a free kick just outside the penalty area. The SC player smashed it in the top corner and should probably be a candidate for goal of the week. With only a few minutes left of the game the Vikings could not manage another comeback.
Otherwise it should be mentioned that Richard took on the job as keeper for the whole game, Travis received a yellow card and Lars was voted Man of the match.
All in all not a game to remember for the Vikings but next week will surely be a lot better!
