Leif Ove Andsnes Performs In Bangkok

Leif Ove
Andsnes will hold a recital at Thailand Cultural Centre, Main Hall, 8 pm Sunday
9 November 2008.

    Ask Leif
Ove Andsnes about the peak of his astonishing career, and the 39-year-old
pianist might point to a special evening near the summit of the Swiss
mountains.

Here in 2003, at the annual Verbier Festival much beloved of the
late HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, eight Steinway Concert Grand pianos were
hauled all the way up the mountain for a distinguished gathering of the world’s
greatest pianists. These were truly the ‘elite of the elite’ and included
Mikhail Pletnev, Martha Argerich, Yevgeny Kissin, Emmanuel Ax, Lang Lang – and
Leif Ove Andsnes. As one reviewer claimed, it was the “dream team” of world
pianists.

    Hailed as
one of the greatest pianists of his generation, Leif Ove Andsnes has been
performing regularly in the world’s most famous concert halls since he first
attracted international attention in the early 1990s. His wide-ranging
discography includes highly acclaimed recordings of the Grieg, Schumann and
Rachmaninov concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as concertos by
Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, Bartók, Britten and Shostakovich, and solo works by
Haydn, Schubert, Chopin, Janáček, Schumann and Liszt. Andsnes has recorded
exclusively for EMI Classics for more than a dozen years in which time he has
won three Gramophone Awards, two Classical Brits and numerous Grammy
nominations.
His concert attire is provided by Issaye Miyake.
