Contemporary Music Festival Breaks Down

Due to unspecified problems, the 2nd Vietnam and International Contemporary Music Festival will begin on October 28 and finish in December.
Originally, according to the HCM City Conservatory of Music Performance Centre, the event was to take place at 7.30pm from October 27-29 at the concert hall of the HCM City Conservatory of Music (112 Nguyen Du, District 1, HCM City). The festival was to comprise concerts and seminars to introduce works by composers from the US, Turkey, the Philippines, Norway, Singapore, China and Vietnam.
One week before the festival, the sponsor asked to postpone the festival till December 2008.
Some foreign artists who had bought air tickets already as well as received assistance from donors flew to Vietnam according to the previous schedule. As a result, the festival began on October 28 and will conclude in December. Hanoi’s Lotus quartet gave the first performance on October 28.
Some talks were scheduled for yesterday (November 4), but many artists couldn’t fly from Hanoi to HCM City for the talks so they were cancelled.
This month, there will be only a solo show by American pianist Julia Andrew on November 7 at the HCM City Conservatory of Music. She will play Dirk Johan Stromberg’s Pulsus Infractus.
