The part-Danish director Alanna Gregory organizes and directing the controversial play The Vagina Monologues in both Thai and English in the Patravadi Theatre in Bangkok from the 27 of February to the first of March. The play has earlier caused great amount of debate around the world because of its delicate subject – especially in USA where it is banned in some places by Christian organisations. By setting up the play the organizers hope to raise awareness on the woman’s right to control her body.
“Generally speaking, we hope to spread awareness about violence against women in Thailand so that we can plant a seed for change. In addition to spreading awareness and facilitating a dialogue about the issues the play discusses rape, violence, assault, trafficking and exploitation, the transgender community, and sexuality, among others” they state.
