While the catholic churches all over Europe, Sweden included, report massive declines among its followers, while the Asian countries – especially the Philippines, has had a record high intake on new members during the last decade, also compared with the country’s number of people, who converts into Buddhism, Protestantism or Islam. This is the conclusion from Phillip Jenkis, Professor in religion from Pennsylvania State University.
“Right the centre of the Catholic Church is in Italy and most of the important leaders are western. But with the massive increase in Asia and Latin America I think that it is about to change. I would not be surprised if the next pope would be from Asia” he states.
