Norwegian Illness in Thailand and Vietnam Sets Record

The Norwegian insurance companies state that they now pay more for cases of illness during vacation than ever before. In the last two years the payment for medical treatment in foreign countries has risen with about 40 percent.
According to them the rise is due to three factors: Norwegians travel more today than ever before; an increasing number of Norwegians go to distant places where bacteria in the foreign food are different from the ones in Norway; and travellers today are often elderly people with lower resistance.
The general manager for Europeiske in Norway, Harald Hollerud, tells the newspaper VG that it is especially in Thailand and Vietnam the number of Norwegian illnesses has risen.
