Stjørdal – Bangkok’s new friendship-city

Even though the low populated Norwegian city of Stjørdal, close to the Arctic Circle and the tropical metropolis of Bangkok doesn’t seem to have much in common, but recently the two cities became official ‘friends’ by signing an friendship- and sister city agreement.

According to the local authorities of Stjørdal, Bangkok chose their city to be the friendship city of Bangkok because of Thailand’s longtime admiration for the Norwegian way of doing things – and because the late king Churlalongkorn  lived in the nearby Nidarosdomen in 1907.
