Danish Man Has Been Arrested In Thailand For Tax Fraud

A 29-year-old Danish man has been arrested in Thailand at the request of Denmark for tax fraud, Pol Lt-Gen Wut Liptapanlop, acting Immigration Police chief, said to Bangkok Post on Wednesday.

Pol Lt-Gen Wut said Martin Matthiasen was arrested at the Emporium Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 24 in Klong Toey district.

The detained man and eight alleged accomplices are accused of falsifying documents to claim tax refunds worth about 180 million krona, or about 1,100 million baht, from the Danish Central Customs and Tax Administration.

The eight accomplices were earlier arrested in Denmark.  Matthiasen fled Denmark to many countries and ended his run in Bangkok.  He entered Thailand from Malaysia through Songkhla province, Pol Lt-Gen Wut said.
