Christmas Party for Danish Kids in Bangkok

The cool weather made sure that it almost felt like winter time when the when Danish Women’s Network (DWN) held their annual family Christmas party. The party took place in the Swedish Church in Bangkok on Sukhumvit soi 33 on Sunday 22. November and the temperature was below 20 degrees, which is a rather unusual temperature for Southeast Asia.
65 people, including families and happy children, showed up and made the event very successful.
The party started at 10 in the morning and lasted for three hours and all the DWN members had each made all kinds of delicious food which they brought along to the garden party. It was a great buffet with Danish rye bread, sandwiches with egg salad and sausages, liver pate, meat balls with cold potato salad, homemade pies and pasta. Of course the desserts were in the traditional Danish style, like homemade æbleskiver with icing sugar and marmalade. One of the highlights was Mai Ellegaard’s husband Yu. Not only did he show up with a tonne of different kinds of high quality home-made Danish pastries that tasted exactly like coming directly from a Danish bakery. He had also baked small petit fours with real home-made marzipan – and later he dressed up as a certain someone starting with S…. C….!
The happy kids played around in the beautiful garden belonging to the Swedish Church. They also participated in games arranged by the DWN and sang Christmas carols around the Christmas tree. And of course last but not least, they each got a present when Santa Claus appeared.
It was a great day and a proof that the real Christmas spirit can be kept alive even though the Danes are far away from their home country.
