Swedish King and Deputy Prime Minister to Visit China

His Majesty the King Carl XVI Gustaf and Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson will be in China from 19 to 24 May for a visit to Beijing and Shanghai.


They will begin their visit in Beijing, from 19 to 22 May, attending meetings with the Chinese government and the Swedish-Chinese High Level Forum on Innovation. Enterprise agreements will also be signed in connection with the Forum.


The aim of the trip is to strengthen cooperation with China on innovation, environmental technology and issues concerning small businesses and corporate social responsibility, and to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and China.


Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson will give the opening address at the Global Summit of Women, which brings together female political leaders from around the world. This time the focus will be on women’s entrepreneurship.


In Shanghai from 22 to 24 May, His Majesty the King and Ms Olofsson will visit the World Expo and take part in a round-table discussion with Swedish and Chinese companies and a major conference looking at innovation and growth, organised by Vinnova. The theme of Sweden’s participation in the World Expo is ‘Spirit of Innovation’.


They will be accompanied on the trip by a top-level business delegation including representatives of several of Sweden’s biggest companies. China is Sweden’s most important trade partner in Asia and the aim is to deepen economic cooperation and create new business.
