Finnish Second Place in World Race

(22.7.2010) Fantastic finale of Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race ended as Team Finland finished in second place. After facing various challenges since departing Singapore in February, Team Finland raced well on the last legs and collected enough points to win the Canadian team Cape Breton Island, which finished third just 1.3 points behind Team Finland. The Clipper 09-10 champions, Spirit of Australia, finished third in the final stage of the 14-race challenge, securing their overall win from Team Finland with 22.7 points. A spectacular welcome greeted the crews as they arrived safely back in Gosport on 22 July, 11 months after their 35 000-mile circumnavigation.

The Clipper 09-10 Round the World race started on 13 September from Humber returning there on 17 July. For the non-professional crew on board one of the ten internationally sponsored ocean racing yachts, the return to Hull Marina marked the end of a challenge of a lifetime. More than 40 nationalities and 230 professions were represented by crew competing in Clipper 09-10. The crew recruitment to the Clipper 11-12 race has now started.

(28.6.2010) The clipper fleet started their third and final ocean crossing 19 June from Cape Breton towards Ireland. While other yachts are still racing and are gradually approaching Cork, Team Finland already reached the port just 8 minutes before Jamaica Lightning Bolt. There will be another two legs to go before the yachts will finish the race in Humber on 17th July. Next the yachts will depart towards Netherlands on 9 July.

(14.6.2010) The yachts of Clipper round the world race arrived in Cape Breton Island on Friday 11th June after a challenging race from New York to Canada. The British Hull & Humber was the first yacht to reach the port while Team Finland, despite the good beginning in the race, ended up with sixth place. The next race will begin on the 19th June when the yachts will sail towards Ireland. Spirit of Australia is keeping the lead in the overall race and Team Finland is still holding on to its 3rd place.

(10.6.2010) Clipper round the world race 09-10 has reached its 7th and final leg with already 11 ports behind. The yachts left the iconic skyline of New York behind on 6th June and head now north toward Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The team Finland is now on third place and in overall race standing on the 3rd place. A lot of improvement in the position has happened since March, when Team Finland reached the port in San Francisco last, due to stopping to save a fellow boat and losing their mast. Crews will soon meet the familiar wet and cold conditions of the Atlantic Ocean before they undergo the last race before their final ocean crossing during Race 12.
The Clipper 09-10 Race is a ten-month event during which the fleet of ten identical 68-foot racing yachts will cross all the world’s major oceans and visit ports on six continents during the 35,000-mile race around the planet. Setting off from the Humber in the north east of England on 13 September 2009, the ten yachts will call at 14 ports during the circumnavigation of the globe. The internationally sponsored yachts will return to the Humber in July 2010. The crew of Team Finland, sponsored by VisitFinland, comprises of 19 different nationalities with skipper Rob Mcinally. In February 2010 The Clipper Race fleet was also berthed at the brand new Marina at Keppel Bay in Singapore.
