Don’t Miss Trio Xong @ Denmark Pavilion Tonight

On Wednesday 18 of August at 19.15 hrs, the trio “Xong” will sparkle at the Denmark Pavilion at World Expo. The proud musical traditions of East and West unite, when the trio Xong performs on Europe Stage. The trio consists of Danish composer and pianist Irene Becker, Danish flautist Charlotte Halberg and Chinese guzheng player Yu Jun.

The story of these three women’s collaboration began in 1996 when a Danish band named New Jungle Orchestra – of which Irene Becker is a member – performed at jazz festivals in Shanghai and Beijing. At one of the Shanghai concerts Yu Jun joined the orchestra on stage. In the following years, this initial meeting lead to several other projects with the orchestra. Yu Jun now resides in Berlin, and she is often invited to Denmark to perform.

By combining flute, grand piano, the traditionally Chinese guzheng and synthesizer, the trio creates a space, which combines the sounds of China, Europe and Scandinavia. You will find romantic music, free atonal improvisation and geographically indefinable sounds.

The trio will be touring in China and they will feature a special guest: multi-instrumentalist Bent Clausen.
