Minister On a Promotion Trip to China

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen will visit China from 11 to 16 October to promote Finnish exports and internationalization. The Minister’s itinerary encompasses the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Shenzhen and Shanghai.


The key themes for the visit are information technology and telecommunications. The Minister will be accompanied by a business delegation of 25 persons, including representatives from the sectors of the environment, IT and building technology, as well the financial sector. The purpose of the visit is to promote commercial relations between Finland and China and to further Chinese investments in Finland.


In Hong Kong, Minister Väyrynen will meet with Rita Lau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. He will also have a meeting with the management of the agency responsible for the planning and implementation of IT policy in Hong Kong. In Shenzhen, Minister Väyrynen will meet representatives of the local administration and will attend a business seminar on information technology. He will also meet representatives of the Finnish Business Council.


In Shanghai, Minister Väyrynen will take a tour of Expo 2010 and will visit both the Finnish and Chinese pavilions. He will also talk at the Helsinki Region Innovation Days, at an investment and financing seminar and at the Cleantech Smart Days seminar. In addition, Minister Väyrynen will have meetings with the management of the City of Shanghai and with public servants responsible for science and technology affairs.
