New Project on Bio-security

Norway and Vietnam signed a new agreement on cooperation in the efforts and capacity to control and manage bio-safety and bio-security. The signing ceremony took place in Hanoi on 13 December 2010.


A new agreement on a project of the management of bio-security was signed in Hanoi on 13 December 2010. 

The project, “Enhancing the Capacity to Control and Manage Biosafety and Biosecurity in Vietnam”, seeks to improve the standards for the management of biosafety and to increase its management capacity in laboratories.

Det Norske Veritas AS (DNV) will be an important partner in the project when it comes to technical assistance and capacity building with regard to developing guidelines and enhance the capacity in terms of biorisk.


The Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam H.E. Ståle Torstein Risa signed the agreement at the signing ceremony together with the president of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), Dr. Nguyen Tran Hien.


The project will encompass the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), National Lung Hospital in Hanoi, and Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. Included in the project is also capacity building for the NIHE on amongst others evaluation, assessment and monitoring of biosafety laboratories in the country.


Norway will contribute with financial support for the 2-year project.
