Thai 3G Deployments Boost NSN Amid Global Pressure

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has revealed that it expects revenue growth of 25% from Thailand this year thanks to the country finally getting its act together over the deployment of 3G networks. The vendor says that delays in 3G licensing over the past five years have seen annual network expenditure in Thailand slashed by more than 40% to THB30 billion (USD988 million). However, 3G network deployment commitments from TOTand CAT, along with a 2G network upgrade by AIS, have led to NSN forecasting positive growth from Thailand after a two-year decline.

The boost from Thailand comes amid global pressures on NSN. The Finnish vendor has warned that its overall second quarter results will be lower than forecast due to price pressure and competition in Europe and China. Sales from the company’s main Devices & Services division are expected to be ‘substantially below’ the original forecast of EUR6.1 billion to EUR6.6 billion (USD8.8 billion to USD9.5 billion).
