DiGi appoints new CEO

Telenor’s Malaysian partners, DiGi.com Berhad and DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd., have appointed Mr. Morten Lundal as Chief Executive Officer, effective from July 26, 2004. He succeeds Mr. Tore Johnsen, who has been seconded to take on the position as Chief Executive Officer of Telenor’s new mobile operation in Pakistan.
     “Tore Johnsen and his management team have successfully built DiGi into a great provider of mobile products and services. I am proud to take over from Mr. Johnsen, and will continue to position DiGi as the most exciting provider of high quality mobile services in Malaysia,” said Mr. Morten Lundal, who comes from a position as the senior vice president for strategy and business development in Telenor.
     Telenor’s deputy CEO and Head of International Mobile, Mr. Arve Johansen, said that Tore Johnsen had greatly contributed to DiGi’s success.
     “For the first quarter this year, the company delivered the best results in its history. With Mr. Johnsen at the helm of DiGi, we have seen the company grow its market share from 16 to 21 percent with a strong financial performance,” he said.
     Tore Johnsen, 56, started his telecommunications career in Telenor in 1974 and has since held various managerial positions within the company including four years as Head of Telenor Broadcast. He has extensive experience in start-up ventures after joining the mobile business area in 1988 and has international experience from various mobile operators both in Europe and South East Asia.
     He began his career in DiGi as Senior Advisor in 2000 and was appointed to the COO position in February 2001. He has held the CEO position in DiGi.com Berhad and DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd since January 2004.
     Mr. Morten Lundal, 39, a Norwegian citizen, has served as an executive in Telenor for the last seven years. He has previously headed Telenor’s business areas both for Internet and Business Solutions. He also has wide management consulting experience from both Norwegian and international markets prior to joining Telenor.
     “We are sure that under the management of Mr. Morten Lundal, DiGi will continue to be at the forefront of the Malaysian mobile industry,” Mr. Arve Johansen added.
