Vietnam targets 5.5 million visitors this year

Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VAT) said on Monday the country had received more than 3.9 million foreign arrivals in the first eight months. That was a year-on-year increase of 18.4 percent. Based on this, Vietnam expects to welcome a total of 5.5 million foreign visitors by the end of this year.
Vietnam has participated in tourist events and exhibitions in among others Denmark and Norway to achieve the increase in visitors. The highest increase in visitors came however from Cambodia (74.2 percent), China (53.3 percent), Malaysia (18.7 percent), Japan (11.7 percent) and Singapore (10.6 percent).
During the first eight months, the country earned about 85 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (4.08 billion U.S. dollars) from tourist services, which is 77 percent of the sector’s yearly plan, said the report.
