Cambodian Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha led a delegation on an official visit to Finland from 27 to 29 July, during which they visited the Finnish weather technology company Vaisala and the Finnish Meteorological Institute to explore cooperation on modern weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
The visit is aimed at improving Cambodia’s weather forecasting, climate monitoring and disaster preparedness. During the programme, the Cambodian delegation examined Finland’s advanced weather radar systems, automated observation technology and forecasting services.
According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the visit reflects the country’s ambition to modernise its meteorological infrastructure as climate change brings increasingly frequent extreme weather events, including floods and droughts.
Finland is internationally recognised for its expertise in meteorology and environmental monitoring, with Finnish technology widely used for weather observation, forecasting and climate research around the world.
Improved forecasting is expected to benefit Cambodia’s agriculture, water management and disaster risk reduction by providing more accurate and timely weather information for farmers, government agencies and emergency services.
The visit also highlights the growing cooperation between Cambodia and Finland in climate resilience and environmental technology, an area where Nordic expertise is increasingly in demand across Southeast Asia.
