Carlsberg Malaysia Reports RM337 Million Net Profit – but declining sales in Singapore

The Danish Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad recently announced its financial results for the year ending 31 December 2024, recording an increase in revenue to RM2.4 billion and a rise in net profit to RM337.1 million.

The company’s revenue in Malaysia increased by RM151.3 million to RM1.86 billion, supported by a longer sales period surrounding the Chinese New Year celebrations and a price adjustment implemented in April 2024.

However, revenue in Singapore declined by RM24.6 million to RM574 million, affected by competitive pricing pressures and the transition from the Asahi brand to Sapporo, impacting premium product sales.

The company’s associate, Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC in Sri Lanka, contributed RM35.6 million to profits, an increase of RM12.2 million from the previous year, attributed to improved operational performance and favorable currency exchange rates.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Carlsberg Malaysia reported revenue of RM587.2 million, an increase of RM7.1 million, and a net profit of RM78.8 million, up by RM800,000. While the Malaysian segment saw revenue growth of RM30.1 million, in Singapore Carlsberg experienced a decline of RM26.6 million.

The Board of Directors has proposed a final dividend of 35 sen per share, pending shareholder approval, bringing the total dividend for 2024 to 100 sen per share.

Managing Director Stefano Clini expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, highlighting effective portfolio strategies and market execution. He also noted the successful launch of premium brands such as Sapporo and 1664 BRUT, as well as the introduction of Somersby Pineapple & Lime cider in Malaysia.

Looking ahead, Carlsberg Malaysia remains cautious due to global economic uncertainties and inflation but is optimistic that local economic growth and upcoming festive seasons will positively influence consumer sentiment.
