China has accused the European Union (EU) of engaging in smear tactics against Chinese businesses following the EU’s recent sanctions imposed on several firms for their support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
On Monday, the EU added four Chinese companies to its sanctions list for supplying sensitive drone components and microelectronic components to the Russian military. Additionally, the EU sanctioned two other companies and a businesswoman for attempting to circumvent its existing sanctions, according to reports from NTB.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on Tuesday that the sanctions violate international law. He emphasized that China would take all necessary measures to protect the interests of its companies. “The EU should stop throwing mud and accusing China without factual basis,” he urged.
This instance marks a continuation of previous sanctions imposed by the EU on Chinese firms for supporting the Russian military. However, the latest round of sanctions marks the most significant to date, intensifying tensions between Beijing and Brussels.
