Vietnam Mountain Marathon might be among the most beautiful marathon races in the world. The race will take place for the second time later this year in the beautiful mountains around Sapa. The Danish Embassy is organizing the event together with Topas Ecolodge.

Around 350 runners from 40 different countries have signed up already, among them more than 30 Vietnamese runners. Danish Ambassador John Nielsen will take up the challenge and participate in Vietnam Mountain Marathon like he did last year.

“The race showcases Vietnam’s extraordinary beautiful nature and highlight the positive energy when people from many countries and cultures meet” says ambassador John Nielsen. Novo Nordisk, the world leading pharmaceutical company, and the Vietnamese Association of Diabetes and Endocrinology (VADE) are sponsoring the event under the headline “Changing Diabetes”.

Runners joining the race can expect an extraordinary adventure along twisting, buffalo-beaten trails, across bamboo bridges and through small mountain villages with colourful dressed ethnic minorities. The race offers unique trail runs of 10 km, 21 km, 42 km and 70 km, and with an expected field of around 450 runners the race will be among the largest marathon events ever seen in Vietnam.

Every entry fee for the race includes a USD 20 donation to the local charity organisation Sapa O’Chau, which supports and offers education to young minorities in the small mountain village Sapa. Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2014 will be held on September 20. Registration ends August 20 or when fully booked.
