Kurt Rasmussen, a well-known Dane living in Northeast Thailand, who is currently hospitalized in Ubon Ratchathani, was close to the scene of a molotov cocktail attack at Det Udom Royal Crown Prince Hospital on Friday.

Rasmussen, who is receiving treatment for lung inflammation on the third floor of Building 2, recounted the dramatic moments when the attack unfolded.

“I am admitted to this hospital in VIP Room 11 on the third floor of Building 2, right across from where the man threw the molotov cocktails. My wife was out on the balcony and was the first to sound the alarm,” he said.

He praised the hospital staff for their swift response, ensuring a safe evacuation of all patients from both Building 2 and Building 3.

The molotov cocktail attack at Det Udom Royal Crown Prince Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani caused a fire that led to the evacuation of patients and visitors. The attacker reportedly also fired a gun at hospital staff who attempted to extinguish the fire but missed.

Firefighters took about an hour to control the blaze, which damaged patient beds and medical equipment but resulted in no casualties. The suspect fled the scene in a rental car and was later apprehended by police. The 40 year old Thai male claimed that stress from a failed land deal motivated his actions and that he had no grievances with the hospital
