Danish Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee visits Vietnam to bolster maritime cooperation

The Danish Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee is visiting Vietnam from March 3 to 6 to engage in discussions with Vietnamese leaders on foreign and security policy, aiming to strengthen inter-parliamentary collaboration between the two nations.

During a meeting on March 4 with the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for National Defence, Security, and Foreign Affairs, discussions centered on maritime security and freedom of navigation. These topics are crucial for both Vietnam and Denmark, as both are coastal nations with ambitions to develop sustainable maritime industries contributing to equitable economic growth.

The Danish delegation, led by Chairman Michael Aastrup Jensen, also visited Thuan An Fishing Port in Hue. Jensen praised Vietnam’s advanced vessel monitoring system (VMS) for fishing activities and the quality of its seafood products. He expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s efforts in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and pledged to relay these positive insights to the European Commission.

This visit underscores Denmark’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Vietnam, particularly in areas related to maritime security and sustainable development.
