Danish pig tits proved ‘hit’ in Thailand

When Danish pigs are slaughtered and the meat exported, it is not just bacon and ham that are being sent off.

The containers filled with Danish pig tits have been popular for the Thai market, where they will be boiled, grilled and then served, a Danish press Foodculture.dk reported.

And if there is still little pig milk left in the udders, it is apparently considered to be extra delicious, the report said.

“Yes, fortunately, we can say that the taste is different. But when customers around the world are looking for the product, we are of course ready to deliver it – even when they ask for a sow’s udder,” said Jens B. Jacobsen, a plant manager at Danish Crown slaughterhouse in Skærbæk.

Some containers carry pig uterus destined for Japan where they are used as an important flavoring in soups.

The ‘special’ orders are proved good business for slaughterhouses as udders and uterus have been sold for the production of animal feed, domestically. But now, the value is multiplied by going from residue to delicacy abroad.

The pig tits are not only animal organs that are sent over the oceans; everyday up to 200,000 scalded, frozen chicken feet are exported to China to be boiled or fried for food.
