Danish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee visited Myanmar

On January 20-25, The Danish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee visited Myanmar, where they met with the Parliament, political parties and civil society groups.

The program of the 6-day visit was very comprehensive and gave the Foreign Affairs Committee opportunities to discuss political and development issues in Myanmar with a broad range of people representing different views and backgrounds.

In Nay Pyi Taw, The Foreign Affairs Committee met with the leadership of the Parliament. The committee held a roundtable discussion with Myanmar Parliament members to exchange views on political developments, parliamentary work and to look into possibilities for cooperation between the Danish and Myanmar Parliaments.

In Yangon, The Foreign Affairs Committee met with a broad range of civil society organisations and representatives from ethnic groups.

The Foreign Affairs Committee’s visit to Myanmar also included a two-day field visit to Shan Stare. The field visit gave the committee members an opportunity to meet partners who are working on development projects as well as beneficiaries of the projects in different areas of Shan State. The field visit consisted of projects covering most of the focus areas of the Danish development priorities.
