Danish electronic music producer HEDEGAARD has spent two months travelling through western China, using traditional music as inspiration for a new project.

The musician, whose real name is Rasmus Hedegaard, travelled around 7,200 kilometres and collaborated with musicians from 10 ethnic groups, according to Chinese media outlet iChongqing.

The journey has resulted in the album KINΔ and a 10-episode documentary, Western China’s Melody.

The documentary follows his journey and introduces audiences to musical traditions from different parts of the region.

HEDEGAARD recorded and worked with local musicians while travelling through different parts of western China. Their traditional instruments and musical styles were then combined with his electronic sound.

The documentary and album aim to introduce elements of western China’s musical traditions to audiences outside the country, while bringing Danish electronic music into contact with Chinese musical heritage.
