Danish runner finishes first at 70-km Sapa int’l marathon

Simon Grimstrup, the pride of Denmark, savoured the sweet taste of success, securing top place at the 70-km ultra international Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2014 in Sapa on September 21.

Simon Grimstrup dominated the 70km marathon, receiving great applause from supporters as he crossed the finish line at what many consider the most difficult marathon competition in the world.

Eight runners participated in the 70km category while 9 and 170 runners in the 42km and 21km categories, respectively.

Despite inclement weather, competitors successfully completed the marathon, with Florian Deichman from Germany claiming victory in the 21km distance after 2 hours and 16 minutes.

With the support of Novo Nordisk-the world leading pharmaceutical company, and the Vietnamese Association of Diabetes and Endocrinology (VADE), the Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2014 conveyed the message ‘Changing diabetes’ with the aim of raising awareness of the fast growth of diabetes in Vietnam.
