Finnish artist Minna Pietarinen brings “I Was Born a Girl” exhibition to Beijing

Finnish artist Minna Pietarinen’s exhibition “I Was Born a Girl” opened in Beijing with support from the Embassy of Finland.

The Embassy of Finland in Beijing has partnered with GlobalMoms Initiative and Genesis Beijing to present “I Was Born a Girl”, an art and poetry exhibition by Finnish artist Minna Pietarinen.

The exhibition opened on Monday 15 September 2025 and runs until Wednesday 8 October at Genesis Beijing, Chaoyang District. Admission is free.

According to the organizers, the exhibition highlights the resilience and strength of women worldwide, combining artistic expression with advocacy for gender equality and human rights. Pietarinen’s works are complemented by factual texts prepared by UN Women Finland and Peppi Stünkel, with translations by Fei Yang.

The initiative is part of Finland’s broader cultural diplomacy efforts in China, showcasing Nordic perspectives on gender equality through art. “I Was Born a Girl” is also the artist’s first exhibition in Asia.

The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Embassy in Beijing and Genesis Beijing, with Peppi Stünkel serving as executive director.
