Finnish baby box concept inspires new initiative in Malaysia

Mamaway Malaysia has launched a nationwide campaign offering free Finnish Baby Boxes to expecting mothers and parents of newborns. The initiative is directly inspired by Finland’s decades-old baby box tradition, which has been credited with supporting infant health and family well-being.

The campaign aims to provide Malaysian families with a safe, clutter-free sleeping environment for newborns. Co-sleeping is common in Malaysia, with surveys showing that more than 60 percent of mothers share a bed with their babies during the first week. While valued for closeness, the practice has also been linked to risks in certain situations.

The Finnish Baby Box offered by Mamaway includes a certified, hypoallergenic mattress and is designed to be sturdy and portable. Mothers can redeem the box at selected Mamaway outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang and Putrajaya by presenting their government maternity record book, known as the “Buku Pink.”

Mamaway emphasises that the baby box is “more than a product” and should be seen as a support tool for families.
