Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Riikka Purra participated in a high-level discussion on global economic resilience in Bangkok on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, alongside the heads of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Purra joined Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga for a discussion titled Building Resilience in a Fragmented World.

The event took place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center as part of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings, hosted by Thailand from 12 to 18 October.

The discussion focused on the challenges facing the global economy as geopolitical tensions, economic fragmentation and uncertainty put pressure on international trade, investment and financial stability.

The session also addressed the importance of strengthening economic resilience and maintaining international cooperation in an increasingly divided world.

Purra’s participation placed Finland among the countries represented at ministerial level in one of the major public discussions during the Bangkok meetings.

The annual gathering brings together finance ministers, central bank governors, international financial institutions and economic policymakers from around the world.

Thailand is hosting the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings for the second time, having previously hosted the event in 1991.

The meetings provide an opportunity for governments and international institutions to discuss economic growth, financial stability, development financing and the challenges facing the global economy.
