Icelandic man arrested for reckless drifting in Chon Buri

An Icelandic national has been arrested in Chon Buri after being caught on video performing dangerous drifting manoeuvres in a rented pickup truck.

According to Thai police, the incident took place on October 7 at the Bang Saen Roundabout and nearby intersections. The orange Ford Raptor was seen skidding and drifting in wet conditions and daytime traffic, drawing public concern after footage circulated widely on social media.

Police traced the vehicle to its Thai owner, who confirmed it had been rented to the Icelandic customer for over two years. The owner said the man denied driving the car during the incident, claiming a friend was responsible. Authorities have confiscated the vehicle for further investigation.

The driver is expected to face charges under Section 43(3) of the Land Transport Act for reckless driving, which carries a fine between 400 and 1,000 baht.

This is the latest in a series of similar incidents involving foreigners performing dangerous stunts on Thai roads. In recent months, cases in Phuket and Chon Buri have prompted police to tighten enforcement and raise awareness about road safety among visitors and expatriates.
