Jane Sorensen passed away

Jane Sorensen, the Thai daughter of a Danish seaman, passed away on 24 March 2025 in the home of her son, Nik.

Jane was “discovered” by ScandAsia when the Maritime Museum of Denmark was searching for material for a special exhibition of the Danish impact that Danish seafarers has had around the world.  ScandAsia has previously covered her story here.

The death and the funeral rites was posted on the Facebook page.  In honor of his mother’s heritage, her son Nik has adopted Jane’s last name “Sorensen”.

When ScandAsia found the identity of her Danish father – Villy Sorensen – with the help of the maritime museum, Maersk Line, Danish Maritime Authority and the Danish Saefarers Union – people around her realised that Jane’s claim to be proudly of Danish heritage was not just an old woman’s fantasy, but a fact.
