Iben Bernstorf Schrøder has been appointed as the new seamen’s chaplain at the Danish Church in Singapore.
She will take up the position on 1 September 2026 and move to Singapore with her husband, Jonas, and their two children, Aksel and Elvilde.
Schrøder is currently a parish priest at Mørkhøj Church in Søborg, north of Copenhagen.
“It is with a certain sense of pride and butterflies in my stomach that I become your new priest at the Danish Church in Singapore,” she said following the announcement in a statement published by the Danish Church Abroad.
In Singapore, she will serve both Danes living in the country and Danish seafarers whose ships call at the city-state’s port.
“We look forward to welcoming Danes to the church for services, annual celebrations and all the activities that we create together,” Schrøder said.
She also highlighted the maritime part of her new position.
“I look forward to serving the Danish ships heading for Singapore. I hope to give the seafarers peace and courage for their onward journey across the oceans.”
According to Schrøder, her family has already received a warm welcome from people connected to the church.
“We have experienced incredible warmth and hospitality, which we would like to pass on to everyone who comes to the church,” she said.
The appointment was announced by the Danish Church Abroad and the Danish Seamen’s Church in Singapore.
