The Danish church community in Singapore has received a major financial boost with donations totalling DKK 1.125 million from the Den A.P. Møllerske Støttefond and Jens og Margrethe Withs Fond to renovate the church’s parsonage.
The renovation will create a modern and suitable home for the new pastor family that will eventually take up residence in Singapore. While the appointment of a new pastor has not yet been announced, the project ensures that the church will be ready to welcome its next pastoral family.
The renovation comes at a time when the Danish church in Singapore is preparing for a new chapter following the departure of its previous priest. A well-maintained parsonage is considered essential for attracting and accommodating future clergy serving the Danish community in Singapore.
The renovation represents much more than an upgrade of a building.
“Receiving these funds means a great deal to the church and to the Danes living in Singapore,” says church council chairman Oliver Andersen in a statement published by the Danish Church Abroad.
“The renovation will not only provide a welcoming home for our future priest and family, but will also strengthen the church’s role as a gathering place for the Danish community.”
The church serves as an important meeting point for Danes living and working in Singapore, offering church services as well as cultural and social activities throughout the year.
The renovation project is expected to begin shortly following the grant announcements. It will hopefully be finished in the autumn when the future pastor has been selected and is ready to move.
