Norway and Vietnam are marking 30 years of cooperation between Norway and Nha Trang University, with a focus on education, research and the development of Vietnam’s marine and fisheries sectors, according to a Facebook post from the Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi.

The partnership has supported training for lecturers and researchers from Nha Trang University in Norway, including at master’s and PhD level. Areas of cooperation have included fisheries economics, aquaculture, biotechnology and fishing technology.

Norwegian-supported programmes including NOMA-FAME and NORHED have also contributed to international education and research at the Vietnamese university.

The long-standing partnership reflects common interests between Norway and Vietnam as maritime nations with significant seafood industries and ambitions for developing the blue economy.

Nha Trang University, based in the coastal city of Nha Trang, has for decades played a role in educating professionals and conducting research related to fisheries and marine science in Vietnam.

The Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi said it hoped the 30-year partnership would lead to further connections, knowledge-sharing and collaboration between the two countries.

The anniversary comes as both Norway and Vietnam continue to explore opportunities related to sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and the wider blue economy.
