Norwegian man drowns at Khaolak, Thailand

A Norwegian man has died from drowning and was found face down at the Nang Thong beach, Phang-nga, 8 January 2019. Khaolak Police later identified the man as 77-year-old Knut Olstein Harlem, from Oslo.

According to the police, Mr. Harlem came to Thailand with his wife and had checked in at a resort at the beach for long stay, from 2 January to 31 January 2019.

Mr. Harlem told his wife at 3pm. that he was going for a swim in the hotel pool but instead he went to the beach and was found lying face down in the water by a hotel guest.

The hotel guest called for hotel staff to help, then the Andaman Hub Medical Center was notified of the incident at 4pm and responded by sending an emergency team.

Attempts were made to rescue the man by the people at the scene and the emergency team, Mr. Harlem was pulled from the water, but the effort was ineffective because Mr. Harlem was unconscious and unresponsive.

After that the body of Mr. Harlem was taken to Takua Pa Hospital, doctors registered the cause of death as drowning.

The Norwegian embassy in Bangkok was notified of the incident.
