After two wins and one draw it was a proud Norwegian team that could be announced as winners of the Women’s Football Four-Nation Invitation Tournament hosted in Yongchuan, Chongqing on Jan 16. National women’s football teams from China, Norway, Canada, and South Korea participated in the tournament.

The Norwegian team, currently ranked no. 10 in the world was led by new coach Even Pellerud who was an attribute to the team’s golden era in the 90’s.

The current team is made up of a good combination of new emerging talents and veteran players. Fresh player Melissa Bjåesøy became the matchwinner against China scoring in the 88th minute after a counter attack, making it her first goal in a national match. Furthermore, her teammate Marit Fiane Christensen was awarded as the tournament’s best player.

Pellereud said of the match being a very tough and challenging one, with many opportunities from both sides. He is now optimistic about the upcoming The UEFA European Women’s Championship and he hopes that Norwegian women football will once again be on the world top.
