Silver medal at Indonesia Open for Danish shuttlers

Last week the Indonesia Open in badminton was played and while Scandinavia is always well represented by the talented Danes, this tournament was a near disaster, with one exception.

Top seeded players were outplayed in the first rounds of the tournament in many surprising defeats and in the end there was only one hope for taking home some metal in the prestigious tournament.

The Danish mixed double consisting of Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer had showed great form and made it all the way to the finals.

However, the gold was not claimed by the successful duo, as the Chinese Olympic champions, Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei who proved too much of a challenge in what was a real nail biter of a match.

In the first set, the Danes were behind with 11-17 by made their way back into the came after an amazing comeback putting them at 20-18. Despite of the lead they were not able to take the first set and after that it was an uphill fight.

The match ended 22-24, 22-20, 12-21 in favor of the Chinese and the Danes had to settle for a silver medal.
