Sweden and the Philippines share focus on sustainable leadership

Sweden and the Philippines highlighted shared ambitions on sustainability during a graduation ceremony held by Sustainability PH, a volunteer-led network promoting responsible leadership and governance in the Philippines.

The initiative is co-founded by Dave Devilles, a graduate of the Swedish Institute Management Program in 2022, and is part of the Sweden Alumni Network’s efforts to apply knowledge gained in Sweden to local leadership contexts abroad.

Sweden’s ambassador to the Philippines, Anna Ferry, delivered a speech at the ceremony, where she underlined the link between responsible business practices and long-term economic performance.

“Responsible business is not only ethical, it is smart economics. Sweden is the proof it works,” Ferry said, highlighting areas such as environmental practices, renewable energy, human rights, labour standards, gender equality and anti-corruption.

According to the organisers, Sustainability PH aims to inspire Filipino leaders across industries to integrate sustainability into business models, promote good governance and contribute to long-term resource regeneration.

The programme was presented as an example of how alumni of Swedish leadership initiatives continue to engage with sustainability and governance challenges in Southeast Asia.
