Sweden and the Philippines discussed closer cooperation on defence technology, logistics and research at a joint committee meeting on 30 September.
The two countries held their third Joint Committee Meeting on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation. Officials reviewed existing initiatives and explored further collaboration.
Philippine Assistant Secretary for Logistics and Acquisition Rene Raoul Rommel DC Honasan co-chaired the meeting with Swedish Brigadier General Dennis Hedström.
Technology, training and military modernisation
According to the Philippine Department of National Defense, as reported by Daily Tribune, discussions covered equipment support, defence technology and military capability development. Both sides also highlighted research, innovation and technical training as areas for closer cooperation.
The talks addressed the Philippines’ ongoing military modernisation and its Self-Reliant Defense Posture programme. Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and improving the ability of their defence forces to work together.
The meeting follows Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson’s visit to the Philippines in July. During that visit, Sweden joined ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, adding to its engagement in Southeast Asia.
