Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia received a visit from UNFPA representative

On June 19, Ambassador of Sweden to Cambodia Maria Sargren welcomed United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in Cambodia Rizvina de Alwis accompanied by Tum May, UNFPA Assistant Representative at the Embassy of Sweden in Phnom Penh.

According to UNFPA’s website, UNFPA is the lead UN agency aimimg to expand the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives.

Operated in Cambodia since 1993, UNFPA effectively reduced the maternal mortality ratio showing that women are better able to plan when to have children. UNFPA determines to continuously ensure every pregnancy is wanted, support maternal health and help young people fulfill their potential.

Ambassdor Sargren and two representatives from UNFPA had a meeting where the topic on the achievements of ICPD (the International Conference on Population and Development) was discussed.

The direction of UNFPA’s new programme in which sexuality education will be introduced in the school curriculum was also addressed at the meeting.
