Swedish cleantech companies showcased technologies and projects linked to the Philippines during the Indo-Pacific Energy Forum in Stockholm on September 4.
The forum, organised by the Swedish Energy Agency, brought together policymakers, industry representatives and companies to discuss opportunities for sustainable energy cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
The Philippine Embassy in Sweden was represented by Ambassador Patrick Chuasoto, Second Secretary Pat Lester Solosa and First Secretary Christiansen Cabahug.
During the event, embassy representatives met with several Swedish companies working on technologies relevant to the Philippines, including Candela, NoviOcean and Waltero.
Candela develops electric hydrofoil vessels, which use underwater wings to lift the vessel above the water and reduce energy consumption. The company has been expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, where it sees potential for electric waterborne transport in cities with busy waterways.
NoviOcean is developing a floating energy platform that combines wave, wind and solar power. The company has specifically examined the potential for wave energy in the Philippines, pointing to the country’s extensive coastline and large coastal population as potential drivers for marine renewable energy.
Waltero, meanwhile, develops battery-powered sensors designed to digitalise analogue utility meters. Its technology can be used to monitor infrastructure such as water, gas, heating and electricity networks.
The Philippine Embassy said the companies shared information about their projects in the Philippines during the forum, highlighting the potential for Swedish technology to contribute to the country’s energy and infrastructure transition.
The participation comes as Sweden seeks to deepen energy and sustainability cooperation with countries across the Indo-Pacific, while Swedish companies increasingly look to the region for opportunities in clean technology and sustainable infrastructure.
