Swedish Midsummer celebrated in Singapore

On June 19, the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore brought together a number of Swedish expats living in Singapore to celebrate Midsummer Day where there were several activities, food and games for the guests to experience the way to celebrate Misdummer in Swedish style.

At the event, Ambassador of Sweden to Singapore, Niclas Kvarnström celebrated Midsummer together with four Swedish floorball teams in Singapore including Hammarby IF IBF, Dalen IBK Women’s Team, Dalen IBK Men’s Team, Pixbo Wallenstam. All of them will take part in 2019 SG Floorball Open, the largest Floorball tournament in Asia.

Organized first time in 2017, SG Floorball Open has got more than 120 participating teams with more than 4000 spectators in just 2 years making it became the biggest international floorball tournament in Asia ever.

According to Embassy of Sweden in Singapore, floorball was first introduced to Singapore by the two Swedish brothers Stefan and Filip Dahlgren. They have pioneered floorball in Singapore by establishing company named Tiasa as a base to introduce floorball in the early 1990s. Nowadays, floorball has become increasingly popular not only in Singapore but also in South East Asia as it has become an official medal sport in SEA games.

“Everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the frog dance around the Maypole. It was all great fun.

“We wish the Swedish teams best of luck as they join the tournament this weekend,” Embassy wrote on Facebook page.
