A Swedish woman wanted by international police has been arrested in Phuket after Thai immigration officers located her on the island following an Interpol Red Notice issued by Swedish authorities.
The woman is accused of playing a role in a call-centre scam that allegedly defrauded victims of more than THB60 million. She was taken into custody by Phuket Immigration and is expected to be deported to Sweden after legal procedures in Thailand have been completed.
According to Thai authorities, the arrest followed cooperation between Phuket Immigration, the Royal Thai Police and their counterparts in Sweden. Investigators tracked the suspect to Phuket, where she was apprehended without incident.
Police said the woman is wanted under an Interpol Red Notice in connection with alleged large-scale fraud carried out through a call-centre scam targeting victims in Sweden. The alleged losses exceed THB60 million.
Thai immigration authorities said the suspect will first face proceedings under Thai immigration law, if applicable, before being deported to Sweden to face the allegations against her.
The arrest forms part of Thailand’s continuing efforts to locate and detain foreign fugitives using the country as a refuge. Phuket, one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations, has seen a number of arrests this year involving foreign nationals wanted by authorities in their home countries.
Interpol Red Notices are international requests to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest individuals pending extradition, surrender or similar legal action.
A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant, and the person concerned remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
