Visitors in Manila will have the opportunity to try speaking Danish, Finnish and Swedish when the cultural event Speak Dating 2026 takes place in Makati on 19 September.

Inspired by the format of speed dating, the event introduces participants to a series of European languages through brief one-on-one sessions with native or fluent speakers. Each session lasts up to five minutes and teaches participants a few useful sentences alongside facts about the language and its culture.

Denmark, Finland and Sweden are among the 19 European countries represented at the event, with their embassies in Manila participating in the programme.

Upon arrival, visitors receive a European Language Passport before choosing which language booths to visit. After learning two or three phrases, they receive a stamp and can continue to another station.

Participants who collect stamps from at least three language sessions can enter a lucky draw for prizes, including beginner-level language courses offered by several of the organising cultural institutions.

Speak Dating is being held in connection with the European Day of Languages, an annual initiative promoting linguistic diversity, language learning and intercultural understanding.

The event is organised by Alliance Française de Manille, Goethe-Institut Philippinen, Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Philippine Italian Association in cooperation with European embassies and local partners.

Speak Dating 2026 will take place at The Concourse on Level 2 of One Ayala in Makati City. The main event runs from 1pm to 5pm, followed by the lucky draw from 5pm to 6pm.

Participation is free and open to the public, with registration available at the venue.
