The 2025 Nobel Prize ceremonies were held on Tuesday 10 December 2025 in two separate Nordic capitals, in line with long-standing tradition. The Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Literature and the other sciences were awarded in Stockholm, where Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf presented the prizes at the official ceremony, followed by the Nobel Prize banquet later the same evening.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded separately on 10 December 2025 in Oslo, Norway. This year’s peace prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who was unable to attend the ceremony herself due to security concerns. Having lived in hiding in Venezuela and facing serious risks in leaving the country, Machado undertook a secret and dangerous journey out of the country but did not arrive in time for the Oslo ceremony. Her daughter, Ana, therefore received the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf.
Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.
The peace prize announcement had attracted international attention after US President Donald Trump publicly expressed hopes of being considered for the award.
