Vietnam explores innovation and space cooperation with Finland

Vietnam deepens innovation and space collaboration with Finland through meetings with SITRA and ICEYE.

Following the recent elevation of Vietnam–Finland relations to a strategic partnership, a Vietnamese delegation has explored opportunities for cooperation in innovation and space technology during an official visit to Finland.

The delegation, led by Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Politburo member and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, met with Finland’s Innovation Fund SITRA and space technology company ICEYE to exchange experiences and identify areas for collaboration.

At SITRA, the discussions focused on Finland’s foresight-based approach to developing national strategies and researching global trends. The Vietnamese delegation also learned about SITRA’s pioneering initiatives such as the world’s first National Roadmap for a Circular Economy and the annual World Circular Economy Forum.

At ICEYE, one of Finland’s leading deep-tech companies, the talks centred on how space technology can support Vietnam’s climate adaptation and disaster response. ICEYE’s synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites enable near real-time flood mapping, early warnings, and damage assessments — crucial tools for a country with Vietnam’s long coastline and exposure to storms.

The two sides also discussed potential cooperation in technology transfer, training, and pilot projects, as well as future partnerships between ICEYE and Viettel Group.

ICEYE operates the world’s largest commercial SAR satellite constellation, offering continuous Earth observation data that supports disaster management, environmental monitoring, and sustainable development.
