As tremors from the earthquake on Saturday rippled through Bangkok, the Danish Church in Thailand remained a place of calm and reflection, filled with guests from across Asia.
According to a post on the Danish Church’s Facebook page, the church hosted a week-long seminar organised by Danmission, a Danish mission and development organisation rooted in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark.
The seminar gathered Danmission’s Asian partner organisations to discuss themes such as sustainability and ecotheology — ironically just as the earth itself reminded participants of its power beneath their feet.
Danmission has worked for more than 200 years to promote contextual theology, faith, and social action through local churches and partnerships. In recent years, the organisation has increasingly focused on encouraging just and sustainable stewardship of natural resources.
“Through dialogue and peacebuilding, Danmission supports people’s will and ability to engage with one another and address conflict despite differences,” the church shared.
Despite the unexpected seismic activity, the seminar continued as planned, underlining the resilience of both the guests and the church community.
